Den Helder-Texel
The ferry service to Texel works more or less like a ferry that goes back and forth continuously. You cannot make reservations for the ferry service from the mainland to Texel. So you have to join the queue. On busier days there can be a long waiting time and it can also happen that you have to take the next boat. You can estimate via the webcams at the Teso website how busy it will be.
Ferry to Texel
Teso is the provider for ferry services from Den Helder to Texel. The ferry departs every hour, and once every half hour on busy days. The crossing takes about 20 minutes. It is not possible to make reservations for the ferry to Texel. You must take your position at the end of the queue. On busier days, this might result in a long waiting period before you are able to board the boat. Please refer to the webcams to estimate how busy the ferry is.
The ferry to Texel departs from Den Helder. A smaller ferry service for foot passengers and bicycles between Vlieland and Texel is also available.
Tickets
Tickets have different prices. Off-peak rates apply on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Here the prices start at โฌ2.50 for 1 person by foot and you can bring a car from โฌ25. Prices for cars rise based on length and at peak rates.

Departure times Den Helder to Texel
- Monday to Saturday: every hour from 6.30am to 9.30pm, every half hour.
- On Sundays, the boat only sails from 8:30 am, then every hour. Between March 1 and October 31, the ferry also runs at 07:30
The boat from Texel to Den Helder departs every hour from Monday to Saturday from 06:00 to 21:00. On Sunday from 08:00 to 21:00
If you travel to Texel on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, you will receive a 30% discount on your ticket for the crossing. At Teso, a ticket is always a return ticket and you will not be checked on board on the way back.
Departure, sailing time & arrival
Because you cannot reserve which crossing you take, it is useful to be present well in advance and to buy your tickets in advance on the Teso website.
If you are going to Texel by car, it is useful to follow the signs when you arrive in Den Helder or to navigate to Pontweg 1 in Den Hoorn. You drive past the ticket machine after which you are ready for the crossing at the stabling area. Are you going by (moped) bike or by foot? The crossing from Den Helder to Texel and vice versa takes about 20 minutes.
Do you want to continue by public transport from the arrival? Bus 28 runs from the ferry port to Den Burg and De Koog. For this you need to bring cash or buy a ticket at Den Helder station or in the bus to the ferry port. In addition, the Texelhopper takes you to approximately 130 stops in small buses. You must reserve these in advance. (up to at least an hour in advance.
Are you traveling from Texel to Den Helder? Then the journey proceeds the same in reverse order.
Parking Terminal and Transportation Information
Parking in the unmonitored parking lot adjacent to the terminal in Den Helder is free. Follow signs for โP Texelโ and โPick Up Drop Offโ (Afhalen Wegbrengen). If this parking lot is full, you can use one of the other parking lots. However, please keep in mind that it takes approximately 10 minutes to walk to the terminal.
Public Transportation to Den Helder
Bus route 33 takes you from the Den Helder station to the ferry terminal. If you are planning to continue your travels to Texel by bus, you are recommended to buy a Texelhopper ticket in the bus. This will allow you to continue your travels when you arrive on Texel.
