How do you get to the Øresunds Bridge?
You can travel to the bridge in two ways. This can be done via the Danish highway or via the (short) ferry from Puttgarden to Rødby. From Rødby you can then travel further towards Copenhagen. All in all, it is cheaper and faster if you choose the ferry route from Germany to Denmark. It won't make much of a difference in cost.
With the ferry between Denmark and Germany to the bridge
- The crossing is 45 minutes and you must be present at least 15 minutes before departure.
- The costs for the ferry are at least € 48,-.
Over the highway in Denmark to the bridge
- In terms of travel time, it is not much longer than the ferry route.
- The costs for this route are: 1) extra petrol, and 2) toll for the Great Belt Bridge (about €33 for a passenger car)
Copenhagen
The bridge starts above Copenhagen Airport, which is just a few kilometers south of the city center. So it is definitely worth a visit to Copenhagen. The capital of Denmark is a very nice city. You can certainly stay here for a day or a few days. The only downside: Copenhagen is not a cheap city.
Malmo
Is a visit to Malmö worth it? Malmö is a surprisingly pleasant harbor city to spend a day wandering around. The center is attractive and old and with good weather you can go to the waterfront or to the beach near the city.
