Ferry to Piombino and Portoferraio
Most travelers to Elba choose the ferry Piombino-Portoferraio. Every day there are many boats going back and forth.
In the summer season it is a busy route. Ferries at popular times often fill up. Now there is often also another ferry that you can go on, but it often doesn't get cheaper if you wait a long time to book. We have experienced ourselves that the prices almost double if you try to book at the last minute.

Port information

Piombino
Piazza Salvador Allende, 57025 Piombino LI, Italy
Portoferraio
Calata Italia, Portoferraio, Elba
The departure from Portoferraio can be a bit hectic. Many cars drive through Portoferrario and it is often a bit unclear where all ferries depart since there are a lot of small signs.
When you arrive at the harbour, the first turn to the right is for Moby's ships (number 1). For the other companies it is useful to continue on the road for a short while and follow the signs until you arrive at a small and busy roundabout in the middle of the harbour. Here you can queue to the right for Toremar and Moby (number 2,3,4,5) and to the left for Blu Navy and Corsica Ferries (number 6 and7). It is best to find out in advance from which number your ferry departs. If you do not have this information, there are also enough employees in the port to help you.
Alternative routes
There are 2 routes that you can also consider. Piombino – Cavo and Piombino – Rio Marina are shorter crossings, but they also bring you to another part of Elba. Check our map for a good view on where the ferries sail to.
