Which ferry should you choose?
Since there are two shipping companies that sail exactly the same route, it is interesting to look at the differences in price and speed. Fjordline is on average slightly more expensive than Colorline. But with Fjordline you save at least an hour on the crossing. So it just depends on how busy your travel schedule is and what you have left for a faster crossing.
By booking smart (timely and on less popular days), it is possible to sit on the fast boat for less.

Hirtshals – Kristiansand ferry costs
Ferry ticket prices are often seasonal and also as the ferry fills up, the prices go up. It is therefore not always easy to compare prices 1 on 1. That is why we sometimes make a trial booking to get a reasonable idea of the costs. However, you get the best cost estimate by comparing the prices between the ferry services yourself in the booking module. For our trial booking we selected a normal car and two adults. We compared tickets in the period May/June. Colorline came out slightly cheaper with this:
- Colorline costs: €114 – €177
- Fjordline costs: €147 – €222
