If you want to travel from Wight to Portsmouth, you can ride the ferry from Ryde or Fishbourne. From Ryde, there is a regular passenger ferry and a hovercraft to Portsmouth. The distance to Portsmouth is around 7 miles and only 10 minutes when you sail by hovercraft. The regular fast ferry is 22 min, and the Fishbourne to Portsmouth ferry, where you can take your car, is +/- 45 minutes.

The total tally of ferries combined? Sixty daily ferries leave for Portsmouth from Wight. The hovercraft ferry is fast, a so-called FastCat that takes you across the Solent; remember that this is a foot-passenger ferry.

You can travel back and forth to Portsmouth from the Isle of Wight. From Wight, you can make your way from either Fishbourne or Ryde to Portsmouth. Need to bring your car? Then the Fishbourne-Portsmouth is the best (and only) connection. 

From Ryde there is a foot passenger ferry sailing to Portsmouth and a catamaran ferry sailing to Southsea, really close to Portsmouth.
