Avoid the vehicle lines

Washington State Ferries move a lot of traffic, so treat it like a flight. If you’re bringing a vehicle, arrive at the dock at least 30 to 45 minutes before departure—and earlier on holiday weekends—because the sailings fill up fast with people heading toward the coast or up to Alaska.

Walking on is the easiest option

If you don’t need a car at your destination, walking on is often the smartest move. It costs less than driving and helps you skip the long vehicle lines that can spill back into local streets. It’s also the quickest way to do a day trip without worrying about a “full ship” situation at the terminal.
