To summarize the schedules and prices: there are approximately 10 crossings per day, with fares around $90 if you're traveling with a car and about $20 without one.
The ferry New London – Orient Point
The Orient Point Ferry connects Long Island, New York, to New London, Connecticut.
Cross Sound FerryΒ offers a convenient way (7 vessels!) to travel across Long Island Sound, saving serious time (1.5 to 2 hours) compared to driving. The ferry operates multiple times a day, and passengers can travel with or without a vehicle.
Without a vehicle it's possible to also take one of the two fast ferries. Which we simply recommend since it's a fun ride on these catamarans!

Orient Point Ferry Pricing
Vehicle fares range from $68 to $99 for cars, SUVs, and larger vehicles, with additional fees for trailers and oversized loads. Passenger fares start at $20 for adults and $7.50 for children, with discounts available for military personnel and early reservations.
Cross Sound Ferry adjusts its fuel surcharge weekly based on fuel costs, with the current rate increasing from 1.2% to 1.3%.Β

We have to be upfront: this ferry schedule is quite complex, and rather than trying to summarize it, we recommend checking the official website, where you can find the PDFs with detailed timings.
That said, the ferry operates regularly, and it's fairly easy to hop on and travel to or from Long Island without much hassle at the port.
