Getting to Moreton Island

There are two different ferries to Moreton Island. A passenger ferry goes from Brisbane to the Tangalooma resort and another ferry lands on the beach nearΒ Tangalooma Shipwrecks.Β You can take your 4WD on this ferry and drive it straight onto the beach.

There used to be a connection from Amity Point (North Stradbroke Island) to Kooringal (Moreton Island) but this connection is inactive at the moment. If you want to travel from North Stradbroke to Moreton Island, you can call a local water taxi.

The Micat arrives at the shipwrecks with both cars and foot passengers on board. At the top left of the photo you can see the resort where the other ferry is sailing to.

The Micat is the only ferry for cars that sails to Moreton Island. It costs around $120 for a one-way trip when you bring a car. Make sure this is a 4WD since Moreton Island is a sand island. This ferry arrives at 15 minutes walking distance from the Tangalooma resort. If you want to travel as a foot passenger to the resort, the Tangalooma service might be a better option.

Parking at the ferry docks

Yes, there is an open-air car park available for Tangalooma guests at Holt St Wharf. The costs are $20 per vehicle per day or $80 per week. The car park is fenced and locked each evening.

Micat also got paid parking possibilities, however, on the weekends, this parking is quite full. If the parking is full it's not that easy to find a good parking spot nearby.Β

  1. I know this site is specifically for ferries, however I have heard they do water taxis? Is this true?

    • Hi Ruhaul,

I honestly think that these 3 ferries are the best way for reaching this island. There are ‘excursion based' trips available however but we are unsure about water taxi's.
