Ferries to Koh Phangan
Koh Phangan has no airport, so everyone arrives by boat, almost always at Thong Sala Pier. From Koh Samui the crossing is short, with Lomprayah, Seatran Discovery and Songserm all sailing to Thong Sala, and from the mainland you can sail from Don Sak with Raja Ferry, Seatran or Songserm, or from Surat Thani with Lomprayah. Around the Full Moon Party boats fill up early, so book ahead. For the wider picture, see our guide to ferries in Thailand.

Gulf of Thailand: Ko Phangan pier logistics
Famous for the Full Moon Party, Ko Phangan has no airport. 100% of its 1 million+ annual arrivals come by sea. The critical decision is avoiding the “Haad Rin Queen” if you want comfort, and choosing Thong Sala if you want connectivity.
| Arrival Pier | Operators | Logistics Score |
|---|---|---|
| Thong Sala Pier (Main Port) |
Lomprayah, Seatran Discovery, Raja Ferry, Songserm | The Capital: The pier for the car ferries from Don Sak (Raja Ferry and Seatran). Located in the main town with songthaews (taxis) ready to take you anywhere. Best for stability and safety. |
| Haad Rin Pier (South Tip) |
Haad Rin Queen | The Party Boat: Direct link to the Full Moon Party beach from Ko Samui (Big Buddha). The boats are wooden, crowded, and loud. Only use this if you are staying in Haad Rin. |
Visitor Volume & Mode Comparison
- Volume: During Full Moon week the boats to and from Koh Phangan fill up quickly, so book ahead.
- Vs. Samui: Phangan is the “spillover” island. Most travelers fly to Samui (USM) and take the 30-min ferry across.

Koh Samui or Koh Tao next?
From Thong Sala you can take a speedboat to Koh Samui in under half an hour, to Nathon or to Bangrak near the airport. Between Koh Tao and Koh Phangan, Songserm also runs a large, slower ferry next to its speedboats; it is an alternative if you would rather not spend an hour on a speedboat. Check the current Songserm timetable for today’s departures.
