Ferries to Corsica: Route Map

Drive your car straight onto a massive Corsica Ferries or Corsica Linea ship in Toulon or Nice and step out into the heart of the Mediterranean. As the largest operators navigating these waters, they haul millions of passengers and vehicles from the French mainland, alongside routes heading east to Italy. Review the regional ferry map to compare all your arrival ports, including the popular southern corridor that hops down to Sardinia. Bring your own vehicle for this trip. You need it to handle the winding mountain roads once you roll off the ramp in Bastia or Ajaccio.

The Napoleon Crossing: Finding your port in Corsica

Corsica is huge, so picking the right arrival port saves you hours of driving on winding roads. The largest ferry operators in the region include Corsica Ferries, Corsica Linea, and Moby Lines. The three main ports in Bastia, Ajaccio, and L’รŽle-Rousse handle almost all the traffic from France and Italy.

  • Where to Start: If you are in France, Toulon and Nice are the fastest gateways. If you are in Italy, Livorno is the absolute favorite because it is the shortest and cheapest crossing, taking only 4 hours to Bastia. Check our Corsica ferry guide for an Italian perspective.
  • Night vs. Day: Many people choose the night ferry from Marseille or Toulon. You sleep in a cabin and wake up in Corsica at 7:00 AM. It saves you the cost of one night in a hotel and gives you a full extra day on the beach.
  • The Sardinia Link: The shortest ferry in the region is from Santa Teresa di Gallura in Sardinia to Bonifacio. It only takes 50 minutes and is a great way to see the white cliffs of the island.
  • Costs and Savings: Prices change constantly. A couple with a car can pay โ‚ฌ150 on a quiet Tuesday or โ‚ฌ600 on a busy August Saturday. Booking on a Tuesday or Wednesday is almost always cheaper than the weekend.
โš ๏ธ Expert Alert: Fold Those Mirrors!
Ferry crews in the Mediterranean park cars inches apart to save space. Before you drive onto the ramp, fold in your side mirrors and follow our camper on board tips for a stress free boarding. Once the boat leaves, you cannot go back down to the car deck.

“Bastia is the best port for the north, but if you want the famous red cliffs and central mountains, aim for Ajaccio. Also, if you are driving a rental car from Italy, check your papers. Some Italian rental companies will not let you take the car on the ferry to France without extra insurance paperwork.”
