Ferries to Qatar

The Qatar to Bahrain ferry links Al-Ruwais Port in northern Qatar with Sa’ada Marina in Bahrain. The direct passenger crossing covers approximately 65 kilometers (35 nautical miles) and usually takes around 70 to 80 minutes. It is a foot-passenger service, so cars, motorcycles and other private vehicles cannot be taken on board.

Use the route map to see the location of both ports before planning your journey. Al-Ruwais is well outside Doha, so the road transfer to the port can add considerably to the total travel time. Tickets and current departure times are available through the MASAR app. Always check sailing availability and the entry requirements for both Qatar and Bahrain before traveling.

Qatar to Bahrain ferry: route and booking

The direct Qatar-Bahrain passenger ferry was launched in November 2025. It connects Al-Ruwais Port in northern Qatar with Sa’ada Marina on Muharraq Island in Bahrain. The route is operated by Masar Group and bookings are handled through the MASAR mobile app.

The ferry does not depart from central Doha or the Doha cruise terminal. Travelers must first arrange transport to Al-Ruwais, roughly 100 kilometers north of central Doha.

What to know before you travel

  • Allow time to reach the port: Al-Ruwais is in northern Qatar, far from central Doha and Doha International Airport.
  • You cannot bring a car: the service carries passengers but not private vehicles. Arrange transportation at both ends of the crossing.
  • Check the live schedule: sailing days and departure times can change. Use the MASAR app rather than relying on a fixed timetable published elsewhere.
  • Check entry requirements: passengers must meet the passport, visa and immigration requirements of their destination. A ferry reservation does not guarantee entry into Qatar or Bahrain.
  • Book ahead: the vessels have limited passenger capacity, so availability may be restricted on popular travel dates.

Ferry, flight or driving?

The ferry provides a direct alternative to flying between Qatar and Bahrain, but the crossing time alone does not tell the full story. From Doha, include the transfer to Al-Ruwais, check-in and border formalities when comparing the total journey. Driving is considerably less direct because the road route passes through Saudi Arabia.

Travel note: ferry schedules, passenger eligibility and maritime restrictions can change at short notice. Check the MASAR app and official travel advice before departure.
