The Cabin Strategy: For overnight sailings, private cabins are limited and typically sell out 4-6 months in advance. Having a cabin provides a private washroom and bed, which is essential for arriving in Skidegate ready to drive the rugged highway to Masset.
Vehicle Standards: Standard cars can navigate the main paved roads, but many “unspoken” island spots require high-clearance 4WD. Note that most rental contracts from the mainland strictly prohibit their vehicles from boarding this ferry due to the gravel roads on the islands.
