Ferry to Mallorca map
Mallorca, also known in English as Majorca, is the largest of the Balearic Islands and one of the main ferry hubs in the western Mediterranean. The map above shows how Mallorca connects with mainland Spain, France and the other Balearic islands.
Most ferries arrive in either Palma in the south-west or Alcúdia in the north. Barcelona and Valencia are the main mainland routes, while Alcúdia is especially useful for Menorca and some faster northern connections. If you travel with a car, campervan or more luggage, the ferry can be a very practical way to reach the island.

Choosing the right ferry to Mallorca
The best ferry to Mallorca depends on where you start and which side of the island you want to reach. Palma is the main arrival point and works well for the capital, the south-west coast and longer crossings from Barcelona or Valencia. Alcúdia is more useful for the north of Mallorca, for onward ferries to Menorca, and for some routes that approach the island from the north.
| Route type | Typical routes | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Mainland Spain to Palma | Barcelona – Palma, Valencia – Palma | Travellers heading to Palma, the south-west of Mallorca or bringing a car, campervan or plenty of luggage. |
| Northern arrival via Alcúdia | Barcelona – Alcúdia, Toulon – Alcúdia | Reaching northern Mallorca, avoiding a long drive from Palma, or arriving from the north-western Mediterranean. |
| Island connections | Alcúdia – Ciutadella, Palma – Mahón, Palma – Ibiza | Combining Mallorca with Menorca or Ibiza without returning to mainland Spain. |
Mallorca ferry ports: Palma or Alcúdia?
Mallorca has two important ferry ports, and the right one can change your travel day quite a lot. Palma is the bigger hub and the obvious choice for the capital, the airport area, the south-west coast and many longer mainland crossings. Alcúdia is better placed for northern Mallorca and is the natural port for the short ferry to Menorca.
Do not choose only by sailing time. On Mallorca, the arrival port matters. A ferry to Alcúdia can save a long drive if you stay in the north, while Palma is usually more convenient for the capital, the south-west and many car-based island trips.
- Travelling with a car: book vehicle space early in peak season, especially on summer crossings from Barcelona and Valencia.
- Heading to Menorca: Alcúdia is usually the most logical Mallorca port for the short crossing to Ciutadella.
- Combining islands: Mallorca can work well as a Balearic base, with onward ferries to Menorca, Ibiza and other regional connections depending on the season.
